The Department of Shipping is an agency under the Ministry of Shipping, Bangladesh. It is the maritime safety administration of Bangladesh responsible for the formulation and implementation of the national policies and legislations to ensure the safety of life and ships at sea, development of shipping industry, maritime education and certification, employment and welfare of seafarers and other related matters. The department is also responsible for ensuring the compliance of international conventions relating to maritime matters.

About DOS

DOS was established in 1976 by merging Navigation Directorate and Controller of Shipping to the Directorate of Shipping. Government regulatory body concerning maritime and shipping affairs. The maritime safety administration of Bangladesh.

Our Functions

DOS is administrating the Merchant Shipping Act, 1983 and the Inland Shipping Ordinance, 1976 and rules there under.

Our Offices

The Department has 16 subordinate offices in Chittagong, Khulna, Dhaka, Narayanganj, Barisal, Chandpur and Patuakhali under its administrative control.
